Xbox 360 No Comments »

Team Xecuter released some great information today about their upcoming X78 DVD Patchmod and Blaster 360 for the Xbox 360 today. The X78 Patchmod is an 11 wire solution for the Hitachi 078 drives which have been notoriously problematic.

Quote:

After a LOT of emails asking us to do this we finally got around to making a simple to install modchip for the pain in the ass 078 Hitachi drive. Not bad for 2 days work. We’re still tweaking a few features but will offer fast media detection etc. Only 11 wires and not very difficult to solder and will be pretty cheap compared to other mods available - more news shortly.

he main problem for so many users is that every time a new firmware is released they have to open up their Xbox, take the drive out, update the firmware, put it all back together again. There have been 30+ firmware updates in recent months so you can imagine how labourious this can get. It is also a problem for those who wish to hook up their Xbox 360 DVD drive to their PC to perform game backups on a regular basis. Xecuter have now solved this problem.

We are pleased to offer the most exciting add-on available to all Xbox 360 firmware modders - the Blaster360. The Xecuter Blaster360 is an external switching device when, once fitted, allows you to flash your DVD Firmware without ever having to open up your Xbox 360 case ever again. In the era of constant firmware updates (30+ so far) this is an absolutley essential tool saving both time and effort, making the firmware update process a walk in the park. Also dumping your game backup to your PC is now a fast and simple process. A perfect ergonomic design maeans there is no soldering & no cutting of the external case - just plug ‘n’ go. You only ever have to open up your case once! No longer will you have to have your Xbox 360 in pieces all the time, no longer will you have to take the Xbox apart every time you need to update new features and functions or essential bug fixes, no longer do you have to have your Xbox 360 in bits every time you want to dump a game backup to your PC.

We have designed this to be as ergonomically sound as the Xbox 360 itself. Its functionally perfect and works so good that we believe all firmware modders will be using this as standard by the end of the year, it just makes life SO MUCH EASIER ! Imagine using this along with the X360 USB - Firmware modding has never been so simple !

Upgrading the PlayStation 3 Hard Drive (HOWTO)

PlayStation 3 13 Comments »

Over the weekend we had a chance to put together a video and outline what is required to upgrade your PlayStation 3 hard drive. Keep in mind that the installation is very straight forward and WILL NOT void your PlayStation 3 warranty.

The drive is concealed behind a panel on the side of the PS3. To remove the panel simply pry up the end with a small slot head screwdriver. You will find that the factory drive cage will contain an OEM Seagate 2.5″ 5400RPM SATA drive.

hddcover.jpg

To free the drive cage from the PS3 chassis you must remove the single BLUE screw with a phillips screwdriver.

drivescrew.jpg

Once you have removed the single BLUE screw you can use the drive cage pull tab to slide the drive cage towards the front of the PS3 unit and free of the internal SATA connector. Once free of the internal SATA connector you can slide the drive cage out of the PS3 all together.

pullhandle1.jpg
pulldrive.jpg

After you have removed the drive cage from the PS3 you can remove the 4 screws securing the hard drive to the drive cage and seperate the drive from the cage. Slide in your 100GB upgrade hard drive or 120GB upgrade hard drive and secure it to the drive cage using the 4 screws you removed in the previous step.

drivecage.jpg

Once you have the drive secured in the drive cage you can slide the cage back into the PS3 and then slide it towards the back of the console to engage the internal SATA connector. Now that the new drive is in place replace the BLUE screw and the access panel. Reconnect you PS3 and power the system ON. The PS3 will automatically detect the new drive and prompt you to format the drive

Once the format is complete your new hard drive is ready for use.

Xbox 360 Black Epoxy Removal Video (HOWTO)

Xbox 360 No Comments »
Here is another informative video put together by ModFreakz which shows how to remove the black epoxy found on the Toshiba/Samsung boards. It looks like it is a little more difficult to remove this black epoxy than it was to remove the white epoxy but still very doable.

It is also important to note that some of the newer Toshiba / Samsung boards seem to have a different type of black epoxy than that seen in the video.

Xbox 360 HD-DVD Works On XP, Vista, Mac OSX

According to recent information posted by uneasysilence.com the Xbox 360 HD-DVD add-on is working on XP, Vista and to some extent Mac OSX. Toshiba device drivers have been released which allow XP to recognize the Xbox 360 HD-DVD drive when connected to your PC via USB. It appears that Windows Vista already includes the required drivers to take advantage of the Xbox 360 HD-DVD drive.Once you have the Xbox 360 HD-DVD add-on drive connected to your PC and the drivers installed you will be able to not only view the contents of a HD-DVD but playback HD-DVD movies. Uneasysilence.com found a version of WinDVD that would support playback of HD-DVD movies.

Quote:

If Windows wants drivers, drivers it will get. After installing these drivers magic started to happen. The HD-DVD drive was now recognized in Windows XP. Now we needed a piece of software to actually play the HD-DVD. And after some hard work we managed to find a version of WinDVD 8 that was able to play an HD-DVD movie even on my low end hardware (Granted with some stuttering).

DMS4 EZI S.E. Solderless Mod Chip Announced

PlayStation 2 No Comments »

The unimaginable has been done. The DMS Technologies Team have produced a completely SOLDERLESS PlayStation 2 Mod Chip that is compatible with version 5 to 15 PS2 consoles. This compatibility includes the latest slimline PSTwo units available today. This solution is completely solderless which makes installation a reality for even the most novice. We expect to begin taking pre-orders for the DMS4 EZI S.E. PRO and DMS4 EZI S.E. Lite very soon.

Quote:

DMS Technologies are proud to present our latest Modchip developments, the DMS4 E.Z.I. S.E. Lite and DMS4 E.Z.I. S.E. Pro. The world´s first 100% completely solderless direct boot/auto detect modchips which are intelligent and can detect their own functionality. Connection to the DSP and BIOS are achieved through micro molded precision interconnects designed and manufactured in Japan, whilst we have designed an innovative pass through adapter for the eject signal. High quality molex connectors are used for reduced noise distortion and improved signal transmission. Over eighteen months were spent start to finish, and perhaps the E.Z.I S.E´s best and most novel feature is the E.Z.I. S.E. panel which uses the FPGA´s intelligent logic design to verify the integrity of the necessary patching signals and report the status via a Green or Red LED. Of course the DMS4 E.Z.I. S.E. Lite and DMS4 E.Z.I. S.E. Pro preserve all the features of their solder installation cousins, providing amazing performance all in a clip on plug and play solution, which is set to the turn the scene upside down!

The DMS4 E.Z.I. S.E. (for V5-V15) is the world’s first direct boot, auto detect modchip to offer 100% solderless installation. The research and development stages of this project took 18 months of exhausting work and many hundreds of thousands of dollars. High power microscopes and latest Japanese mold making equipment equipment were required to analyse and construct the precise dimensions, contours and physical tolerances required to connect with the DSP and BIOS integrated circuits. Other so called solderless mods, have relied on swap technology with a cheat device.

Many people had doubts we could pull it off, citing the complexity of micro molds and ingenuity required to complete such a task, as next to impossible. Well guys, it’s here, and we’re first.
We’re very proud to offer a product which we’re sure will revolutionise the PS2 modchip world. As you’ve come to expect, you can be sure of world class quality software and technical innovation, from the scene’s most innovative MOD maker.
