Team Cyclops has released firmware version 3.5 for the CycloWiz Mod Chip for Wii. Version 3.5 of the CycloWiz firmware fixes dual layer DVD support. While CycloWiz has always supported dual layer DVDs version 3.0 of the firmware broke that functionality which is now fixed in version 3.5. In addition to a new firmware they’ve also released a new tool called the Dual Layer DVD Test Tool that can be used with any Wii Mod Chip to detect it’s dual layer disc compatibility. Since all Wii games are shipped on single layer discs the laser assembly is not tuned properly to read dual layer DVDs even if the firmware supports it. This tool will allow you to test whether or not your Wii is capable of reading Dual Layer DVD discs.

The XCM Team have taken Wii case modding to a whole new level with the II-Hot Rock Case. This new replacement case employs a built in digital thermometer which monitors your Nintnendo Wii’s internal core temperature and adjusts the case LED color output accordingly. For example the case LEDs will be light blue when the Wii’s core temperature is below 29C. After several minutes of operation the core temperature has risen to 41C and the LED changes to yellow.

Guess what, while the drive PCB is different, CycloWiz has been tested and is 100% compatible with the new boards !
