As far as I can tell, the update only adds skinning to the media player, not to the OS menu. It's hard to really know, as the documentation is very poor - it mentions files and directories that don't exist and is overall not very useful. Only the two files mentioned called _DS_MENU.DAT and _DS_MSHL.NDS exist in the install set, so for the rest of the instructions you just have to guess.

If anyone figures it out, I would love to hear about it :). Also if someone finds an app that will actually run (apart from the supplied moonshell), that would be good to know too. I really bought this device to play homebrew games with, but it doesn't appear to be compatible with them :(. Looks like it is intended for use with pirated ROMs only.

I think that additional cooling would be a MUST if you are going to use higher RPM drives. Maybe the Nyko PS3 InterCooler would be a good option.

Curious, would the external cooler be effective with a higher RPM drive, I got maybe 2-3 120 GB Maxtor 7200s still in the box. Would the aftermarket cooler help?

What is your policy on the current 'Qkin' issue being investigated by the DX-Xtreme team here:
http://forums.ds-xtreme.com/showthread.php?t=1745

I just recently received my ds xtreme and am having these same WSOD issues. Would you suggest waiting for potential fix or returning to you until issue is resolved?
thanks,
